Project Overview

Product Leaders are at the core of agile product development, responsible for aligning business goals with development teams. However, continuous learning and skill development can be challenging due to time constraints, a lack of engaging resources, and the absence of structured peer learning.

Skill League is a gamified learning platform designed to help Product Owners and Product Managers upskill through quizzes, real-world challenges, and community-driven discussions. The platform fosters engagement through badges, leaderboards, and AI-powered personalized learning recommendations to ensure a dynamic and interactive experience.

Key Insights

1. Gamification & Engagement Needs

  • Stakeholders emphasized the need for an engaging learning experience through badges, leaderboards, and challenges to drive participation.
  • L&D Managers see gamification as a tool to boost skill adoption and track employee growth over time.

2. Community & Peer Learning

  • A discussion forum and knowledge-sharing hub were considered essential for collective learning.
  • Product Leaders prefer peer recognition for valuable insights shared in the community.

3. Privacy & Performance Anxiety Concerns 🚨

  • Many Scrum Masters & Product Owners expressed concerns that performance data being visible to colleagues or management could create pressure or biases in evaluations resulting in yearly hike concerns.
  • Some users fear low quiz scores might impact their professional image.
💡

Solution: Skill League should offer flexible profile visibility settings (Community, My Segment, Anonymous) and allow users to control who sees their progress.

4. Admin & Reporting Needs

  • L&D Managers require detailed performance analytics to track learning impact.
  • Admins need an easy way to announce new challenges, manage users, and create quizzes.

  • Quiz and challenge system is functional with multiple states for better tracking
  • Performance trend shows a steady increase in active users

Lessons Learned

High Engagement but Areas for Improvement

  • • With 77.7% active users, engagement is strong, but tracking returning users and drop-off rates is essential to improving retention.
  • • The league system is effective, but most users remain in Bronze (221 users), suggesting we need better incentives to encourage progression.

Tackling Privacy & Security Concerns

  • User data protection was a key focus, ensuring compliance with privacy policies and limiting admin access based on roles.
  • • Implemented secure authentication & restricted data access for quiz scores, league progress, and personal details to other users

Gamification Drives Participation

  • • Features like leagues, badges, and quiz retries increased engagement.
  • • However, progression needs more incentives—offering rewards for higher leagues or custom challenges could enhance motivation.

Personal Impact

Working on Skill League was a transformative experience, allowing me to leverage user-centric design, gamification, and AI-driven insights to create a meaningful learning platform for Product Leaders.

Key Contributions & Learnings

  • End-to-End UX Ownership – Led the entire UX process, from research and persona creation to wireframing and high-fidelity UI design. Ensured that the platform aligned with the needs of product leaders.
  • Balancing Engagement & Privacy – Tackled the sensitive issue of performance transparency by implementing privacy controls (Community, My Segment, Anonymous) to let users decide how they wanted their performance displayed.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making – Used quantitative data from quizzes, leaderboard trends, and engagement metrics to refine gamification strategies and improve the user experience.
  • Collaboration & Leadership – Worked closely with admins, L&D managers, and stakeholders to ensure the platform met real-world learning needs while fostering a collaborative learning community.
💡

This project strengthened my ability to design with impact, solve complex UX problems, and drive engagement through strategic gamification and AI-powered insights.
